The warm greetings of the head of the International Hockey Federation René Fasel with Alexander Lukashenko caused confusion and disappointment in the position of the head of the federation both among the Belarusians and the international public.
The visit of René Fasel and the discussion of the championship were commented on by the World and European Champion and the CC member Nadezhda Ostapchuk.
– Mr. Fasel’s arrival raised many questions. It is not clear what he needed to know in order to come to Belarus in person. The world knows that Belarus currently has more than 30,000 detainees for the peaceful expression of their opinions and 178 political prisoners. It is interesting that the fact that a Swiss citizen, Natalia Hersche, a compatriot of Fasel, was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for the plucked balaclava and is currently serving her sentence in a prison in Belarus did not stop Mr. Fasel from a warm embrace with Lukashenko. It was surprising that the President of the International Hockey Federation did not want to see and hear the Belarusians and the international community speak every day about the lawlessness that is taking place in Belarus. So there are questions for Mr. Fazel. What kind of leverage does the regime have, that neither the reaction of the world community nor the demands of many teams of potential champions to move the World Championship from Minsk embarrass the head of the hockey federation and he continues to have warm communication with the current authority in Belarus?
